News from St Philomena’s Children’s Home is that all but one of the 36 girls passed their year end exams with flying colours. The child who didn’t make it has been placed with another organisation, which will enrol her in a special school where she’ll receive all the extra help she needs to progress at her own pace.
Five of the girls were re-unified with their families, or extended family members. This is the ultimate goal of the home. No child should grow up in an institution – even a place as supportive and loving as St Philomena’s – if there is any chance they can be brought up safely within their own families and community. Social workers at the home work closely with family members to ensure that the girls go back to a safe, stable and nurturing environment.
At the moment, there are 32 girls at St Philomena’s … all of them needing food, clothing, an education, medical and dental care. We are extremely grateful to our caring supporters who contribute towards these ongoing costs. Thank you!
