The Inner City is Also a Missionary Field
Whilst the new community centre is being built, Emmanuel Cathedral’s outreach projects are scattered in temporary homes within the general area.
Nkosinathi (God is with us) This project opens its doors to welcome the poorest of the poor and the homeless. Living on the street, people have no access to ablution facilities. At Nkosinathi they can take a shower, receive clean clothing and receive a meal.
Usizo Lwethu (Our help) is a primary health care clinic. Right now it operates out of a space made up of some walls, makeshift curtains, and an examination bed. Immunization has had to be discontinued for the moment, until the clinic’s new home provides a waiting room for mothers and children, as well as the stream of other patients. The clinic is also in desperate need of a blood testing machine.
Refugee Pastoral Care. It’s a tragic fact that war and persecution continue to drive people from their homelands. For those who seek refuge in Durban, this project provides help with accommodation, food, schooling, healing of trauma, and language classes.
