‘An Evangelising Community Serving God, Humanity and All Creation’.

One of the most important moments in the lives of many of us, is when a loved one gives us his or her last words before they leave us. The precious and memorable words which Jesus spoke to his Disciples before leaving them to ascend to his Father in heaven were: ‘Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you’. (Matthew 28:19-20)

Jesus’ last words form the Mission Statement for His Church. Additionally important is how those last words are understood and put into practice by those to whom they have been spoken. The meaning applies them to the whole Church, to each and every Disciple of Jesus, not just the Apostles and their close co-workers.

Yes! This mandate by Jesus is meant for all of us who have been baptized – the entire community of believers.

In the last twenty years, the Popes who succeeded Peter have reminded us of this in different ways. We have been ‘Baptised and Sent’.

Beginning in October 2019, all Churches in every part of the World are being invited to celebrate a Special Missionary Year. And as 2020 begins, the Bishops of Southern Africa will be launching a revised Pastoral Plan called ‘An Evangelising Community Serving God, Humanity and All Creation’.

Through your support of the Zulu Missions, it could be said that you’re ‘ahead of your time’. I thank you for that.
